Too Much Fun!

It was so good to see everyone last weekend!  Even though we didn't have an enormous turn out, it was so much fun seeing everyone and catching up.  Kudos to everyone involved in the organization effort.  I loved the casual setting and laid back feel.  I look forward to more get togethers in the future!

You guys did a great job!  Missed you on Saturday.  But I seen a few great friends that I wouldn't get to see otherwise on Friday.  See  you guys soon.

Play it again Sam

I reserved the FBB again for next C-Day. Hope that's OK with everyone.

Winter you do so good left handed, it must be easier. Think I'll try it. I couldn't do much worse.

Just wanted to add how proud you guys made me to be part of the Carmi High class of '83!!!

Bulldog Quilt
The quilt that Connie Gwaltny-Trotter made for our class and donated to the Bulldog Booster club was given away during half time at Saturday's game. Brad Lee, principle at the High School, won the quilt and the Booster club raised $170.00.

Great job Connie!!

Had a great time!

Thank you sooooo much Jamie, Jack, and Dave!  I had a great time!  I hope to have another reunion soon.  There are still a lot of classmates I haven't seen since high school.  It would be great to get together before we start wearing hearing aids, using canes, and loosing our false teeth!  I would like to hear from anyone anytime you can.  I'm getting ready to be grandma for the second time in February, would like to hear of everyone's good fortune.  Be safe, and hope everyone stays well.

WOW!!

Even though I only spent a short time with you as a class I have never felt as welcome as this weekend. We may have aged[very little] on the outside but everyone still remembers how to laugh and enjoy themselves. Thank you Jamie, Jack , Dave and your wonderful wives for hosting this event. Forget a 30 year lets do it every year. Next time we will rent a bus and drive around picking up those to busy to drive a few miles or blocks.
Thank you class of 1983 for making me feel at home. You're my boy Dave, you're my boy!

Thanks!

Hopefully everyone is home safely by now, or close. I just wanted to thank everyone that made it for coming
and to say that everyone that didn't make it was truly missed by all. I really enjoyed seeing everyone get
along so well. The food was awesome, I think we are blessed with some good cooks. Even though some of us
hadn't seen each other for 25 yrs it was like we still knew each other as good as 1983.

Jamie...............YOUR THE MAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks,
Dave

Thanks Mrs. Kearney..I haven't been in any of those museums since middle school, I know that for sure.. Kelly , we ask that you keep the alcohol on the down low. I am sure there will be a bunch of it going on. We don't have time to be bonding classmates out of jail, so just keep it low key. Also, I believe we finally have come up with a design for the shirts..It will have a Bulldog on the back clawing his way through the shirt and will say " We're Back"  with a class of 1983 under it. The front will have a logo on the left chest and Carmi above it. My wife likes doing hats also, so we will be doing some hats. A plain hat  ( probably grey ) with Carmi embroided across with a white circle with 83 inside of it. Someone suggested a bake sale, but I believe the booth rentals are too far gone. A bake sale would be the easiest way to go, because we could do the stuff before we come for Corn Day.If anyone is interested, speak up. My wife also asked me what we are going to do with the money we get from the shirts. Well I said we can find someone to take it for sure. When I came on the sight today it says 25 days to go. It's getting close people. I am looking forward to reuniting with my fellow classmates. Has anyone heard from Craig Russell, Dave Wood or Susy Gowdy? Here's apicture of the Bulldog that will go on the back of the shirts..

Historical Society museums open Corn Day

Those of you who would like to visit any of the four White County Historical Society museums while you are in Carmi are welcome to stop in between 11:00am and 4:00 pm on Corn Day, Oct. 11. The L. Haas Store Museum will be hosting an exhibit called "Wedding gowns: Old, New and In-between." The Ratcliff Inn will be having a corn tasting, featuring dozens of different dishes made from corn. The Robinson-Stewart house and the Matsel Cabin will have tours. If you haven't seen the museums since your middle school days, this would be a good time to see what's new (er... old).

Barbara Kearney
DiMaggios and beer!!!

Can we bring adult beverages to the Farm Bureau Bld.? I mean just a few for pizza not enough to cause a problem. I'll be glad to buy the pizza since Jamie is bringing BBQ. I look forward to a great weekend.

ANY SUGGESTIONS ON SOME KIND OF SLOGAN ON SHIRTS

We are doing shirts, We have a couple of ideas, but welcome any and all suggestions on some kind of design.  So far we will probably be going with a bulldog on the rear with our graduating class embbeded in the dog, probably with some sort of Carmi Class of 1983 on the front. Hey Jeff, I remember when Lantrip's parents left that New Years...Boy that car of his mother's could lay a patch a rubber from Winter's house to almost the high school..Golly what an evening that was. I believe that car died on his way home that night. I believe we tore the tranny out of that thing. Sorry Mrs. Lantrip...

Time is slipping away

Hey all...I noticed the date today (Happy Birthday Martha and Mary) and couldn't believe our get together was just around the corner.  I think we need to decide what we are going to do.

I have some suggestions:

It appears the football game would be a good idea and that would be a lot of fun.  Great job on the quilt Connie.  I know that took some time and it is hard to give up something you have worked so hard on.  I think we all appreciate the effort!  Maybe we could have a meeting spot before the game and try to sit together and represent the Class of 83.  Jamie mentioned he can do t-shirts??  That may be pushing it, but just throwing it out.  I think it would be a great idea to recongize our football players and maybe cheerleaders at halftime.  My husband's school did that and the guys really enjoyed getting together and talking about all their surgeries due to the football years.  (Growing old is tough!)  I assume the band will be performing, so that may be an issue of time, but maybe worth checking out.

I would love to get together Friday night for DiMaggios and some beers!  Any takers??

Let's get things rolling again!  I know everyone is really busy, but we never get to see each other and I am really looking forward to talking to everyone.

Keep in touch.

I didn't invite you to the derby because I knew you wouldn't have time to get your hat together!

What a quilt......
That is the sharpest looking quilt I have ever seen. What a great job you have done Connie. Thanks Alot
Bulldog Quilt and Cornday Football game
Connie Gwaltney Trotter has finished the Bulldog Quilt and has done a remarkable job I must add!! I have given it to the Booster Club for them to use as they wish to raise money. A couple of suggestions that I had was display it at the fair and to put a picture of it in the paper to draw interest. Display at the football games and sell raffle tickets then give it away during halftime at the football game on Cornday weekend. Yes you heard correctly...we'll be playing Christopher on Cornday weekend. The game will start at noon on Saturday. So that leads to more possibilities of activities for us that weekend as some have mentioned. Would be fun for our class to pack the place during the game that day especially with the quilt being given away.

Forgot to say hi

Marilyn, Liz, Kendra:

Forgot to say hi.

Hi.

Kendra - remember the "turning 30" video?  I'll see if Sharon can figure out how to put this on the website.

Jeff Douthitt
Is anyone out there

This is Douthitt.  Sharon does all the blogging, internet stuff in our family.  She'll post some pics and stuff when she gets to it.

This site is great and I have enjoyed reading about everyone.

Lantrip - I didn't know what happened to you.  Remember New Years Eve when your parents were gone?

Youngman - get some kids!  You got way too much time on your hands.

Pete - when did you go to Louisville?  Thanks for inviting me to the derby.

Baker - you haven't aged.  what's up.

Larry - we adopted a girl from Guatemala.  She will eventually break me - I can't tell her no.

Hunsinger - ready for MN.

Yates - you got something for Hatfield??  A little too interested dude...

See you guys.

Jeff Douthitt

Seems the web sit died. What's up with that? So has anybody heard

froma Angela Hatfield yet?

It would be kind of neat to have a tribute from the class that I graduated with in my son's Senior yearbook. *grins*

Jack,

There is a fee, but I will take care of that personally as part of my donation to the Class of 1983.  Got your e-mail with the picture.  Thanks!

2008 Yearbook 'Ad'

It's great seeing all the interest and ideas for our reunion.  I think a quilt would be a big hit!  And I have another idea to throw in the pot.  Our niece, Erica Zieren, is a teacher at the high school and also oversees the yearbook staff.  There is space available (1/2 page) if we would like to add a tribute to the seniors.  I wondered about using our yearbook theme, drifting balloons, and blending that with wishes for the Class of 2008.  I would be glad to work on it with Erica if there is a thumbs up from the rest of you.  When we get a rough draft I would post it for approval.

Quilt
Connie Gwaltney-Trotter is going to make a quilt for our class to use as a fundraiser. It is going to have a school theme...maroon and white with paw prints and she has the capability to embroider pictures from .jpgs. She said that around twenty pictures should be plenty. I have scanned our yearbook cover, taken photos of the announcers booth and the scoreboard on the football field. Here are some of my thoughts...in no certain order...
1) Since the quilt is school related we should donate the quilt to the booster club for them to raffle off.
2) I think that the quilt would appeal to a larger audience if we limit the amount of year specific photos.
3) We could ask that some of the money be used in a certain area...like the ball diamond at Ekerle park as was mentioned earlier.
4) Photos should be mainly but not necessarily school related.
5) It could be displayed for weeks as Connie thinks that it may be done by the White County Fair with the drawing to be at halftime during the game on Cornday, that is if there is a game that day.
6) Have suggestions for photos?...Let me know and I can try to take them.
7) Have photos?...Get in touch with Connie...email them to her.

I'm just thinking out loud here.

Hope to get some feedback on this project as raffles of these type generally do well and Connie is excited about helping our class help others!

Classmates,

I'll bring a fish fryer and some pure white meat catfish, you know, with

I wanna tell her that I love her but the point is rather ???????????

Is it  mute, moot , mood? This has been driving me crazy for 26 years!

Re: Classmates who did not graduate with us

I have posted a list of names of the classmates that did not graduate with us under the “LIST OF NAMES” link.

Jack Baker

Jack Baker
Yeah I know them people....
Angela Hatfield was in Henderson , KY working at the court house back in 1994..I believe her last name was Able, don't hold me to that. She graduated from Union County High School in KY..Also Traci Floyd and Gordon Floyd , they were Angie's step-siblings. Last I heard they were in Evansville..I guess I can go to the Union County High School web-site and try to locate her..I will try to find her.
Jamie Youngman
Classmates who did not graduate with us
Yes, David I remember her...in fact Jamie and I were talking about her the other day. He said that he met her some time after graduation though I can't recall the details. Maybe we could come up with a list of those that went to school with us for several years but did not graduate with us like Jeff Lantrip. Hi Jeff *waves*

I have thought about looking through my old annuals to come up with a list...for example right now I'm looking in our freshman yearbook and Mary Cutchin and Karen Danner are right beside each other, bring back memories? Maybe I'll try to do that when I get some time.

Great Ideas!!

Wow! I am so impressed with all of your ideas! I think the float would be fun. Pete, you are right, the parade needs more of them. They pay for the top 3 floats in several categories, I think. A donation to either the hospital or school would be nice. I know the baseball team is always working for ways to improve Eckerle Park!!   I would be willing to help put the float together and could get some "local" help the week before. I like the football tailgate idea too! It's usually a fun game with lots of out of towners here!

Thanks to Jamie and Dave, especially, for getting all of this started!

Contacts...not the ones for your eyes, silly!
I've been contacting allot of our fellow classmates and let me tell you I've really enjoyed talking to you again...lots of memories are coming back, all good of course. I have, however, not contacted any teachers but that sounds like a good idea...anyone game? Please encourage them to visit this site and please encourage fellow classmates to add their details on this site! Would really make it easier if we need to contact them again.

Re: Pheonix
The Phoenix Foundation is a group of people who banded together to try and open the hospital back. They have gained non-profit status, got possession of the remaining medical records, the property and have jumped through the necessary hoops to try and open the hospital. They have nearly completely remodeled the Skilled Care unit and are very close to opening it back up.

Fund raiser

Jamie, you have lots of great ideas.  I know the Corn Day Koozies are always in demand, so anything that is a corn day souvenier would be a hit.   For those of us that do not live in Carmi, what is Phoenix?  I assume it has something to do with the hospital.  I know that everywhere I have lived, the school system always needs help.  I don't know the need of the Carmi school system, but it might be nice to donate something of need to the high school since that is what is bringing all of us together.

Also, is anyone contacting the teachers?

Pete

Pete Elliott
Hi..
Hi everyone. I think the reunion is a great idea and thanks to those of you who are organizing it. I am still in contact with Donna Newberry-Unfried and can be reached either through her or through the email address provided. My mom still lives in the area and I will be visiting her the week of the fair. I am happy to volunteer some time during that week if there are last minute things needed to be done. I now live in the Chicago area so anything more than that would be a struggle for me due to distance. I would, however, like to make a small cash donation to help offset costs. Who would I need to contact to do this? I would also be willing to volunteer in helping during the reunion, if needed.

Marilyn Bartley-Chapman
No more ideas huh?
I have a million ideas to raise money for Phoenix...We could hold a jail and make people be bonded out...I have seen that before at Corn Day....My wife has many many marketing items, such as cups, tumblers, keychains, golf tees, pens, anything like that..We could sell plastic tumblers at a booth, filled with your favorite sodie beverage..we can make them for less than a dollar, they could easily sell for $5-$6 easy. We can put anything on them that we would like..Such as For Phoenix From Us..Carmi Class of 1983..We could even raffle off something nice, like a LCD television. Nice mountain bike.Six Flags tickets. My wife's uncle is a former NBA player and a commentator for the Memphis Grizzlies. I am sure he would be more than happy to contribute some sort of tickets to a Grizzlies game, Memphis Redbirds ...anything..I am willing to put every effort possible to help Carmi get a hospital. Come on people throw your ideas out there..
Jamie Youngman
I was thinking Phoenix too Dave
How bout the old pie throwing contest for a fund-raiser..Get some local "celebs" to volunteer to receive the pies....I think it would produce a lot of revenue. Well maybe not a lot, but a bunch.
Jamie Youngman
Thinking more local
That's a good one and there are plenty more that are worthy also, but I was thinking it should be more local. The big thing around here right know is the hospital.
I'm not saying that has to be it or anything, but certainly worthy of our efforts. I was thinking of maybe having a stand with a game in it uptown. We could take turns working it, it wouldn't take 1 or 2 people at a time.
Just some ideas.
Dave
RE: Dave's idea
Sounds really neat there Mr. Hunsinger....We need to come together on an idea for which charity. We always give a contribution to the American Cancer Society, I have lost both of my parents, and an aunt to cancer. So if I had had my choice, that's the one I would continue to support.
Jamie Youngman
Worthy
How about some type of charitable event. Anything from big to small, then we challenge the rest of the classes to beat us. Pick your cause. We can work all day and talk about it all night.

My wife's idea...

A float idea that my wife had was to have the homecoming king and queen and their court from our class on a float with the theme of the parade...

Corn Day theme

As soon as the theme for this years Corn Day is announced I'll post it here. I called a Kiwanis member today and the theme has not been decided.

Jack Baker

A float would be cool, it would take a lot of effort from people though. That one we decorated over at Margie Elliott's for the homecoming beat me to death. Stuffing those little pieces of paper in that chicken wire is for the birds..I will help anyway I can, we would need a good theme and a good group of people to help out. I would think we need to be working on the thing at minimum a week before the parade. We could always do our rendetion of the "Soul Stompers" lol.... Keep putting ideas out here, Pete, that was a good one..1 point for Pete..

Float

You can use my shop to decorate and I do have a wagon, but that is about the extent of my talents.

            Dave

How about a "Class of '83" float for the parade?  That parade NEEDS SOME FLOATS!!!!  It would be a big undertaking...maybe a Friday night get together?!  It might be fun if it was planned and organized ahead of time by some creative classmates.  (I am NOT volunteering, however, as I am not creative.)  I would be happy to help with the work.  This might not be possible, but it was just a thought.

A Saturday morning golf outing sound like a great idea.

Pete
Stuff people said they are bringing, donating or making.......
So far Dave Hunsinger said he will take care of one night's food, just finger food, no big sit down meal. I would say a Sunday sit down meal would be good. We have the Farm Bureau for all 3 days, nights, whatever. Chris Frymire, John's wife, said that they will bring flatware, utensils, cups and some pies and cobblers from their restaurant. I will bring BBQ, beans, and buns. If you want to donate just click the add a message and post it. Thanks everyone..
